Name: Marcin Drozd
Job title: Aberdeen Store Supervisor
3 Fun Facts about you:
1. I am talkative
2. Although I am tattooed head to toe, I am nicer than I look
3. I have two yorkie dogs called Minnie and Dexter
Can you tell us a little bit about your background and who you are?
I grew up in a city called Szczecin in North-western Poland, which borders Germany and is close to the Baltic Sea.
I graduated from a mechanical engineering school in 2006 and decided to come to Scotland a year later. For several years I worked and trained in the logistics and warehousing sector in several companies in Aberdeen. In 2014 I started working in the aviation sector at Airbus Helicopters as Logistics Coordinator. In 2016 when NHV opened the new base in Aberdeen, I moved here as a Storekeeper, eventually becoming the Store Supervisor for Aberdeen in 2020 and assisting with AOG on call duty.
It was in Scotland that I met my beautiful wife. I have two children: Zuzia age 9 and Milan age 3, and our two yorkies. We live in a cosy house near a lake in beautiful little village called Tomaszkowo in central Poland where my wife is from.
During my time off, I am a qualified Personal Trainer, nutrition advisor and bodybuilding instructor (in 2015, I was 2nd in the Open Scottish Bodybuilding Show!).
My role as Aberdeen Store Supervisor is to ensure that all procedures and activities of my team are carried out as planned and on time for our two bases in Aberdeen.
The Stores team for NHV are essentially the Storekeepers for the parts, products and tools, and the organisation behind logistics and supply chain. The team mainly supports the engineers as part of the crucial day to day operations. Part of the role is to deal with the receipt and inspection of the quality of parts, products or tools, in accordance with the documentation and procedures in the system and store.
The stores staff are very qualified, as they have licenses for forklift/electric stacker, crane, and Dangerous Goods shipments.
What led you to pursue a career in Aviation?
It was always a dream to be working with helicopters or planes, and I've always thought that working in aviation would be a very interesting and prestigious sector to work in.
What do you find exciting about the industry and what is something specific about your role at NHV that you love doing?
It is an interesting experience for me to work in an international company, because every day I work with different employees across our various bases, and sometimes I get to visit the bases, which I love.
It’s also incredible to see how much the company is developing. Since the time that I started working at NHV, we had about 30 employees here and today there are over 150, we now also have a second terminal and another base in Aberdeen - and the number of helicopters has tripled!!
Can you tell us a bit about a favourite project or experience that you’ve had at NHV?
One of the exciting projects that I’ve been involved in, was helping to open our second base in Aberdeen (Base maintenance), where I was responsible for logistics and store.
Improving logistics and warehouse processes and rebuilding the store in our Norwich base is also a project I loved.
Last year NHV celebrated its 25th anniversary, and I enjoyed to be part of the team who helped preparing and setting up the event. We had fun celebrating this milestone with our colleagues, families and customers.
How do you define success?
I define personal success as doing the right thing at the right time, in harmony with myself and being satisfied by making people around me happy and smile.
What are some of the things that you like to do, outside of work?
I spend my free time with my family and dogs on walks, games, and trips together.
Sport plays a big role in my life; I am a big football fan and I’ve been playing it since I was a child. For 13 years I was part of the Scottish Amateur League in a Polish team called Fc Polska.
My second sports love is fitness and gym, for 20 years I’ve been exercising as much as I can.
What are some words of advice you would give to others who are considering pursuing a career in
Working in the aviation sector gives you great opportunities to meet interesting people from all over the world and the chance to visit some beautiful places.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I am glad that I can work with such a professional and helpful team.
